Rudy Farias, 25, was discovered on Thursday at a church approximately 8 miles from where he last had lived in Houston when he lost as a teenager, says Tim Miller, a search and rescue operator with Texas EquuSearch.
On June 29, the Houston Police Department got a call for help responded to the east Houston church, and then verified that the person was Farias, according to a department spokesperson.
The family statement claimed that they had no further information about the man’s situation and that he had been discovered by a good Samaritan who had dialed 911.
According to Houston Fire Chief Sam Pea, the Houston Fire Department arrived at the site at the police’s request.
Pena said that Farias’ mother was also there when they arrived. According to Cannon, it was unidentified where Farias had been for the eight years prior to this one.
Investigators from the police have not yet talked with 25-year-old Farias, who is now receiving treatment in a hospital.

Nearly 360,000 complaints of missing children were filed to the FBI in 2022, according to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children; this figure may include duplicate reports. Since police were not able to find Farias after the 2018 sighting, the investigation remained open as a missing person case, Cannon said.
