Wedding Rock Cake, Royal National Park

Wedding Rock Cake, Royal National Park

Wedding Cake Rock, a highlight of the renowned Coast route, is situated about an hour’s walk south of Bundeena. The pristine white rock stands out against the sandstone of the coastal cliffs, which are harder. Its sharp edges and deep cracks give it a distinctive shape, like a slice of cake sitting high above the raging ocean.

Because of the iron leaching that gives the sandstone layers their white color, they are extremely fragile, brittle, and prone to collapse. Please don’t sit or stand on the rock or get too close to the cliff edge for your own safety.

The journey there is half the fun as you negotiate the rocky, steep path through the coastal heathland, which is teeming with birds, swamp wallabies, and spring wildflowers. The track follows the cliffs along the shore, providing expansive ocean vistas ideal for whale viewing and numerous vantage locations to capture breathtaking pictures of Wedding Cake Rock without risking your safety.

Return to Bundeena along the track or continue past Wedding Cake Rock to Marley Beach on the way home.Wedding Cake Rock is situated in Royal National Park along The Coast route, south of Bundeena. Getting there:
