BARRENJOEY LIGHT HOUSE/ PALM BEACH

Sydney’s northernmost point, Barrenjoey Head at Palm Beach,  where the Barrenjoey Lighthouse is located. The lighthouse is located 91 meters above sea level and is accessible by a few short walks. It has stunning views. The lighthouse may be recognizable to viewers of Home and Away, and Summer Bay Surf Club is close. It’s a simple day trip from Sydney and an excellent site to take foreign guests.

One of Sydney’s northern beaches’ most recognizable landmarks, the lighthouse has a rich cultural history. The lighthouse, its oil chamber, and keepers’ cottages were constructed in 1881 from locally quarried sandstone, and they still have their natural stone finish.

You may get there by taking a short, beautiful walk along Barrenjoey Track. It takes around 30 minutes each way from the Governor Phillip parking area to the peak and requires intermediate fitness. For a more difficult trip to the top, you could opt to walk Smugglers Track. The track’s construction by customs authorities to keep an eye on smugglers smuggling illegal goods into Broken Bay circa 1850 gave rise to the track’s moniker. A steeper and shorter route up to the lighthouse is available through Smugglers track, but it is well worth the effort.
